Splash screen misbehaves

Description
This is just a note that the splash screen (simplified to use built in functions) is still somewhat faulty. Buffer switches during loading, especially, can lead to the opened file buffer being deleted.

Fixed by reverting to a version of the original code. Experimenting with view-mode more trouble than it's worth.
